Sum Regions Are Hidden
(Published on 14. March 2024, 14:38 by Krydax)
I've wanted to build a fog puzzle since I first saw the mechanic, and I also love construction puzzles! So here's a combination :)
- Each column and each row of the sudoku must contain the digits 1-9 once each.
- The solver must identify the shape of the nine orthogonally connected regions of the grid. Each region contains the digits 1-9 once each. The grid under the fog will be revealed as you place correct digits
- As a blue "region sum" line passes through regions, its digits have the same sum within each region. If it passes through the same region multiple times, each pass is counted separately. All region sum lines have the same region-sum as each other. Region sum lines do not intersect or overlap in any cells.
- In a gray-shaded min/max cell, the value is either less than or greater than the value of all orthogonally surrounding digits, based on the arrows. Min/max cells and all of their orthogonally connected digits are always part of the same region. To avoid any doubt, if min/max cells have a side without an arrow, this indicates sharing that side with another min/max cell (whichever is the same type).
- A white dot separates two consecutive digits. Not all dots are given.

I don't think I would ever rate a chaos construction as less than 4 stars, but the Fog of War actually helps keep the solver focused in the right area and provides immediate positive (or negative) feedback. Despite a few sticking points, it seems possible to make steady progress. Very very enjoyable

Superb puzzle, working out the regions with the region sum lines was fun. Really enjoyed, thank you

Ooo, I LIKED that one. Just the right difficulty, that with careful thought I could solve it without being driven to despair. And not just solvable but fun to do so.
(I did make one mistake but it did NOT affect the fog clues and I noticed it before its effect or non-effect on the fog spoiled things!)
