Wreathe (Dual Masyu/Yin Yang)
(Published on 3. March 2024, 00:00 by dumediat)
I've been toying around with some ideas lately involving grids with dual masyu loops, and thought it might be interesting to use shading as a means to create some interaction between the loops. Ratings, comments, and feedback are much appreciated! Please feel free to reach out to me on Discord if you have any comments or questions. Please also feel free to try my other puzzles here.
Rules:
- Yin Yang: Shade some cells such that all shaded cells are orthogonally connected, all unshaded cells are orthogonally connected, and no 2x2 area is fully shaded or unshaded. Pearls in the grid do not affect shading. Clues outside the grid indicate the number of either shaded or unshaded cells in that row or column. Different clues may indicate different shading.
- Masyu: Draw two non-branching loops through the centers of orthogonally connected cells. The loops may cross one another on non-pearl cells, but each loop may not cross itself. For black pearls, the loop must turn on the pearl, and go straight through both adjacent cells along the loop. For white pearls, the loop must go straight through the pearl and turn in at least one adjacent cell along the loop. All pearls must be visited by a loop.
- Connection: All pearls visited by one of the loops are shaded, and all pearls visited by the other loop are unshaded. Cells not visited by either loop must be unshaded, and cells in which the loops intersect must be shaded.

Solution code: The shapes of the loop segments in column 4 (straight=I, turn=L, cross=X, empty=E), followed by the shading in row 4 (unshaded=U, shaded=S) (24 characters)
