ⓈⒷ Super Bowl Loop (FoW) ⑤⑧

(Published on 10. February 2024, 07:25 by ElChiglia)

You are standing on the field in Las Vegas in front of 70.000 people in the stadium and millions and millions all around the world in front of their TVs. After an intense game, resulting in a tie, the overtime is about to start. You are the kick returner of your team and the overtime kickoff is on its way to you. Being only the second Super Bowl ever going to overtime, you are already part of history, but you want more. While the kick is long and far to your right, you are not going for the touchback. While you scan your surrounding, you decide, it is now or never! While you want to run as far as possible, your real goal is a touchdown. You have to stay clear of all defenders trying to tackle you. After passing the first few of them, reaching already the middle line, you see a gap opening and go for it. 40 yards ... 20 yards ... 10 yards ... touchdown! You cannot believe it, you made it, you scored for your team, is that the Super Bowl win? You turn around, run along the side line, and see the referees signaling a touchdown. But why is your team celebrating, yet nobody is storming the field yet? That's when it dawns on you, new overtime rules! Go Defense!

---- RULES ----

Normal Sudoku rules apply: Fill the grid with digits 1 to 9 appearing once each in every row, column, and 3x3 box.

Returner Loop: Draw a single 1-cell-wide loop of orthogonally connected cells into the grid that starts at the revealed cell and moves only right, up, and down until it reaches the end zone (column 9). It can't go out of bounds (rows 1 and 9), and must avoid all defenders (by not entering any of the 5 cells adjacent to a drawn defender to the left, top, or bottom, see drawing). Once it reaches column 9, it moves straight down to R9C9, and then straight left all the way back to R9C1. The loop cannot touch itself, not even diagonally. Digits on the loop alternate between even (2468) and odd (13579).

Fog of War: The grid is partially covered by fog. When a correct digit is placed, the fog will be lifted from the surrounding cells.

Kropki Dots: Cells connected by a white dot contain consecutive digits. Digits in cells connected by a black dot are in a 1:2 ratio.

XV-clues: Cells connected with an X must sum to 10 while those connected with a V sum to 5.

Nabner Lines: Two consecutive digits cannot be placed on the same golden line. Thus, if for example a 6 is placed on a Nabner Line, no 5 or 7 can be placed on it.

Zipper Line: Digits an equal distance from the center of a lavender line sum to the digit in the middle of that line.

Really flowed nicely after the break in - enjoyed this more than I would the actual Superbowl

This was cool! I enjoyed the experience of revealing a defender and having to dodge and solve along the way. Good idea for a Super Bowl weekend puzzle
