Pseudoscience

(Published on 7. February 2024, 19:54 by marty_sears)

This puzzle is inspired by the very cool ruleset in SenatorGronk's awesome puzzle Pseudo Coup

Here are the other puzzles in my Pseudo series:

Part 1: Pseudoscience

Part 2: Pseudo Differences

Part 3: Fakes in the Fog

Part 4: Pseudo Cluedo

Part 5: ???

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • In each row, column and box there is exactly one 'pseudo cell.'
  • The digits 1-9 each appear once in a pseudo cell.
  • The real value of a pseudo cell (for the purposes of the coloured lines) is determined by multiplying its row number by its column number. Eg; if there is a pseudo cell in r6c3, it has the value of 18, regardless of which digit appears in that cell.
  •  GERMAN WHISPER:   The values of adjacent cells on a green line have a difference of at least 5.
  •  RENBAN:   The values of the cells along a purple line form a non-repeating consecutive set, which can be arranged in any order.
  •  NABNER:   The value of a cell on a yellow line may not be consecutive with (or the same as) any other values on that line.
  •  REGION SUM:   The value of cells within each 3x3 box along a darker blue line sum to the same amount.
  •  SAME DIFFERENCE:   The values of adjacent digits on a turquoise line always have the same difference.
  •  DIFFERENT DIFFERENCE:   The difference between the values of adjacent cells on a peach line must be different for every pair of adjacent cells on that line. Eg: if there are two cells with values of 7 and 9 next to each other on the line, then cells with values of 4 and 6 may not appear next to each other on the same line (as both pairs would have a difference of 2.)

Fun puzzle. Very smooth and clean logic.
Pretty easy as well.

Solved this a few months ago but never registered the solve and lost my original solve so I had to do it again. Just as enjoyable the second time! This showcases all the Marty brilliance in one puzzle. One of his best.

Exquisitely set. What you did with that peach line in box 9 is amazing. Thank you!

This was tricky, but so smooth! I almost laughed out loud when the realization hit about what the last digit on the lower peach line must be and why. Great puzzle!

If anyone is wondering what "smoothness" means in a puzzle, all you would have to do is show them this masterpiece.

Although the deductions were not all easy by any means, it was always very clear to me what I needed to focus on next. I'm not sure how Marty does this, but it makes for a very fun solving experience!

You are a mad scientist, Marty.

I guarantee that you have never seen a different difference line like the one in this finale.

...i'm stuck, I'm stuck, I'm stuck...

maybe I'll try this....

...oh you ingenious man!!! That was so easy and obvious (now I see it)! I'm so dumb

I think that was most of my emotional thought process throughout solving this!

It is brilliant. Fantastic puzzle. Very proud of myself to have finish it.

What a beautiful puzzle! Such an optimal setting! The logic around r5c2 was so intricate unwinding the mid solve. Although the entire puzzle was extremely enjoyable, the ending was out of this world. Thanks a lot for sharing this masterpiece.

Lovely! One has to be alert of possible traps but if you don't fall through them it's an absolute blast to solve.
