Harbor

(Published on 29. January 2024, 16:40 by Bert)

Play on SudokuPad

Normal sudoku rules apply.
Cells in the cage are the quay and piers of the harbor and have no special restrictions.
All other cells are either water (digits 1 to 6) or ships (digits 7 to 9). A ship has a width of one cell and a length of two or three cells, is oriented horizontally or vertically, and may not touch other ships (incl. diagonally).
Cells with a circle are buoys in the water, its digit (1 to 6) tells how many cells of water it sees horizontally + vertically including itself. Piers and ships block sight. All buoys are given.
Digits separated by a black dot have a 1/2 ratio. Not all black dots are given.
Digits on a crane (thermometer) increase from the tower (bulb).

This was such a fun and original puzzle! I saw it featured on CTC, and after I solved it I had to come find it here and add it to my favorites.

It's funny how many people in the video comments forgot the negative constraint. For once I wasn't the one forgetting a rule. The negative buoy constraint is one of the things that makes this puzzle so unique and interesting.

I was a bit unsure if I can do this, I'm glad I tried. It was great fun!
At about 60% finished I re-read the rules. All buoys given.

Lovely puzzle, thanks Bert!

Very nice puzzle! Absolutely gorgeous how everything falls into place in the end.
And a beautiful theme, so well done setting this!

Not sure if I've missed something obvious though. Would definitely rate it more difficult than 2 stars. Would put it on the higher end of 3/5.
