Double Negative

(Published on 17. January 2024, 21:12 by JeremyDover)

For those who enjoy math!

Rules

Normal Sudoku rules apply.

Double Negative rules: The grid contains 9 double negative cells, one in each row, column and box. For purposes of killer sum clues, the digits in double negative cells count as -2 times their value. Each digit from 1 through 9 is double negated exactly once.

Killer Cages: Digits in cages cannot repeat and must sum to the number shown in the upper left corner of the cage, if given.

Little Killers: Digits along an indicated diagonal must sum to the given number outside the grid.

Many thanks to chameleon and Qril for testing!

Want to add, that I really like the one special cell per box constraint (doublers, negators, etc) and wish LMD had a way to search for them.

For me, the puzzle has a nice entry where I made progress early, then slowed down to a tough chewy puzzle in the middle. A bit of a stretch for me, but satisfying when I did manage to finish

"Zero Sum Game" would've been a more intriguing title. ;)

JeremyDover: I had already picked out my bad pun for the title before starting the puzzle, alas :-) Thanks for the comment!

Oh I disagree, this was definitely quite mathy. I got a nice mental workout keeping track of all the math in my head :) Nice puzzle!
