Diffambiguate

(Published on 16. January 2024, 00:23 by marty_sears)

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Digits separated by a black dot are in a 1:2 ratio (one is double the other.) Not all possible black dots are shown.
  • It must be determined whether each grey line is a 'Same Difference' line or a 'Different Difference' line.
  • SAME DIFFERENCE: Adjacent digits on a Same Difference line always differ by the same amount, but this 'difference value' may be different for different Same Difference lines.
  • DIFFERENT DIFFERENCE: Every pair of adjacent digits on a Different Difference line must differ by a different amount. Eg: if there's a 3 next to a 5 on the line, there can't be a 7 next to a 9 anywhere on the same line.
  • The digit in the turquoise diamond indicates how many Same Difference lines are in the grid.
  • The digit in the peach diamond indicates how many Different Difference lines are in the grid.

Something like this has no right to have such a beautifully smooth solve path. Every step felt fair and natural but still well earned. Great!

Such a clear path that it almost felt like solving a fog puzzle. Quite easy but very enjoyable!

It's got that Marty Sears charm to it that you know I love

I'm sure this isn't the first puzzle to be described as such, but this is quintessential Marty Sears! The choice of line placement is phenomenally intricate, and the puzzle has a beautiful and in a way quite unique flow to it. Thank you!

Brilliant and satisfying, with great flow, not too hard to spot what to do next

Great puzzle with very interesting logic!

Very enjoyable as always from Marty! I took the scenic route to the solution having failed to make the first deduction at the start, instead opting to wait until about halfway through the solve. Even still, more approachable than the puzzle appears at first glance.
