Santa Pesto, Pt. 1 (6x6)

(Published on 27. December 2023, 03:05 by SamuPiano)

This is the smaller of two puzzles created for Math Pesto as part of the Secret Santa in the CTC discord server. (The larger one can be found here.) They requested a pencil puzzle / sudoku hybrid. I had never done a pencil puzzle, but I came across one called "nurimisaki" that I found could lead to some interesting logic when crossed with sudoku. I hope you enjoy it!

Rules:

Sudoku: Normal sudoku rules apply.
Nurimisaki: Shade some cells in the grid such that the shaded cells form a single orthogonally-connected (possibly branching) path. No 2x2 area can be completely shaded or unshaded.
Circles: Circles are all shaded and must be orthogonally connected to the path in exactly one direction, and the digit in the circle indicates the number of consecutive shaded cells that can be seen in a straight line from the cell, including the cell itself.
Local Renban: Box borders divide the path into segments. Each segment is a valid renban line - each segment comprises a set of consecutive digits, in any order. If a segment has only one path cell, it could be any digit.
Shading Requirement: Each digit must be shaded at least twice.

Example puzzle without the last restriction can be played here:

Happy solving! Please check out part 2, and check out some of my other puzzles!

Solution code: The shaded cells of columns 3 and 4 of the solution, read top to bottom.

Fun little puzzle. Wouldn't consider it 2*, as despite the small size there were a couple tricky steps.

My first Nurimisaki solve, therefor 3 stars for me. Very interesting and fun!

Cute and nicely done! (though it may be harder than 2 diff for some)

Great puzzle - thanks :-)

I did totally miss that last line of the rules...

I found it more challenging than a 2*, but that might be more my CPU late at night :-)
