Straddle

(Published on 26. December 2023, 22:35 by marty_sears)

This is the fourth in my series exploring what can be done with the brilliant Squishdoku ruleset invented by Jay Dyer in November 2023.

Part 1: Neatly Squished

Part 2: Squishpers

Part 3: A Bigger Squish

Part 4: Straddle

Part 5: ???

Rules:

  • The grid is divided into 12 regions. Fill the grid with the digits 1-9 so that each digit appears exactly once in each row, column and region.
  • IRREGULAR SQUISHDOKU: Solid grey lines are regular region borders. Dashed lines are also region borders, but digits can sit on top of these. A digit straddling a dashed line is simultaneously part of both regions that the dashed line separates.
  • RENBAN: Digits on a pink line form a non-repeating consecutive set, but these can be arranged in any order.
  • GERMAN WHISPER: Adjacent digits on a green line must have a difference of at least 5.
  • KROPKI: Two digits joined by a white dot are consecutive. (Not all possible white dots are shown.)
  • X CLUES: Two digits joined by an X sum to 10. (Not all possible Xs are shown.)
  • INEQUALITY ARROWS: An inequality arrow points towards the smaller of the two digits it sits between.

Wonderful! I find letters works better than coloring on puzzles like this and made it pretty smooth. Great!

The start was easy enough but then wonderful logic throughout with smooth flow of logic. Had fun colouring the grid and then in the end after a squished brain, a very satisfying solve. Thanks for sharing!

If you're wondering if this grid will melt your brain, it will; but, you should go ahead anyways and give it a try. Well worth your time.

Amazing variation.

Absolutely loved it! Flows very naturally
My only mistake was reading the >'s for V's which got me for a second but which fails very rapidly. Just leaving that here in case someone else also forgets to engage their brain
