Pentawake
(Published on 17. December 2023, 09:00 by Agent)
This puzzle is a Pentominous / Heyawake hybrid. Standard rules of both genres apply, using the pentominoes as regions for the Heyawake. I'm hoping this can be a nice relaxing solve before a few harder puzzles coming up!
Rules
- Pentominous: Divide the grid into pentominoes (five-cell regions) so that no two pentominoes of the same shape (including rotations/reflections) share an edge. Letters indicate the pentomino shape that cell belongs to.
- Heyawake: Shade some cells so that no two shaded cells are orthogonally adjacent and the remaining unshaded cells form one orthogonally connected area. Numbers indicate the amount of shaded cells in that cell's pentomino. A sequence of consecutive unshaded cells may not cross more than one pentomino border.
- A pentomino may contain any amount of letter and/or number clues, including none at all.

Solution code: The number of shaded cells in each row, from top to bottom. Then the uppercase letters of the pentominoes in row 8, from left to right. 20 characters in total.
