Star Killer Part 11: Magic Stars

(Published on 13. January 2024, 20:00 by FischmitFahrrad)

Standard Star Killer Sudoku rules apply (see below).

Additional constraints on stars:
  • Adding up the values of both stars in their respective box, the sums for each box form a 3x3-magic square.
  • Magic Square: Every row, column and both diagonals in a magic square sum to the same total. Values in a magic square must not repeat.
For clarification: Values may or may not be consecutive.

Additional constraints on digits:
  • Arrows: Digits along an arrow sum to the digit in it's circle.

Star Killer Rules:
Place exactly two stars into each row, column and box. Stars may not share an edge (no diagonal constraint!). The number in the top-left corner of a cage (if given) gives you the number of stars, that are outside of the cage and share an edge with that cage.
Digits in a cage do not repeat and sum to the total X. The number in the top-left corner of a cage must be equal to the digit sum of X.

This was difficult but manageable. I loved the thought of how the magic square was constructed as soon as I had it but I spent a good while wondering how this would work and thinking about the wrong things. From there it took a bit of extensive note taking to visualize each option in the next box i looked at, but after that the orientation flowed quite nicely.

Also, I love that this series went up from 10 to 11 to now 12 puzzles.

Really sorry for that. Did check again and found a typo in there. The code should be correct now. Thanks for pointing that out to me.
