Spot The Killer (Fog)

(Published on 20. November 2023, 11:30 by Flinty)

Normal Sudoku Rules Apply.

Fog of War
Most of the grid is covered in fog. As you solve more of the grid will appear.

Killer Cages
Digits in cages must sum to the number in the top-left corner, and digits cannot repeat within a cage.
Not all cage totals are given.

All cages are exactly 3 cells in size, and do not overlap / share cells .
All cages contain exactly 1 Kropki Dot linking two cells within the same cage.

Kropki Dots
Cells seperated by white dots are consecutive in value.
Cells seperated by black dots have values in 2:1 ratio.
No negative constraint.

Solution code: Row 4 (nine digits)

@bpRobbo: I think the cages without totals were there mainly to have all Kropki dots in cages (and exactly 1 per cage). So probably for aesthetic reasons.

I can confirm that some cages without totals definitely could be removed (except for their Kropki dot).

A little late to the party but just solved this one now. Among the world of Fog puzzles, I would consider it beginner-friendly. Took me around 30 minutes and I've only done a Fog once or twice before.

I really enjoyed this, flowed very nicely which is what I'm after to practice seeing the logic and not just filling the grid with pencil marks. I didn't catch on to why there are cages without totals though - seems like the dots in these locations were enough.

Great approachable with cool small steps. One bigger thought needed. Great fun thx.

This is the first fog of war puzzle I did and it was very nice! I loved it. It was easy to do and very satisfying!

Absolutely loved this! Fairly simple logic, but flowed super nicely and the way the puzzle guided you to the next step was lovely!

This puzzle is a legitimate 1-star rating, I could have used this when I was starting out and some of the 1-star puzzles took me 2-3 hours to solve!

This flowed very nicely, always having a clear path. It never left me frantically pencil marking all possible digits, something I resort to for many puzzles. It took me 27 minutes as a beginner, very approachable!

Nice. Not a favourite (fog style) but the setting was good and fun

21:45. This is a very nice puzzle and was perfect to introduce variations to my brother. not too hard and each input led logically to the next.

21:16 for me, as a relatively newcomer to fog sudoku this was very enjoyable and was good practice with reducing options for each cage :)

I had to come back here and comment that this is the first puzzle I've ever solved here. What a great one to start with. It actually made me think I'd easily solve most of the other 1-star puzzles since this was the first I'd even started. Boy was I wrong XD

Thanks for creating this one!

Flinty: That’s awesome and thank you. There are plenty of quality, approachable puzzles on here. There are also a lot of clever people that see a 1 star where we might see a 2 star - haha.

Really good coffee break puzzle. Would highly recommend it for beginners to "the fog of war" concept.

Nice one!

Perfect "end of the day wind-down" puzzle. I appreciate that, despite the straightforward start and fairly linear logic path, you still found a way for keep a little challenge at the end in box 9. Some puzzles would have folded by then.

I love fog of war puzzles! Than you for the setting.

I'll admit I guessed the very first step, but only because I assumed the kropki dot was implied, not explicit. Color me surprised!

One deduction leads very nicely to the next all the way through this puzzle. Thank you!

I'm one of those who haven't mastered at all - so I really appreciate fog and logic clues!

Thank you for a very nice puzzle!
