Arvada - a Beachcomber Sudoku

(Published on 3. November 2023, 04:20 by glum_hippo)

Normal Sudoku rules apply. Each row, column, and 3x3 box must contain the digits 1-9 once each.

The digits in row 3 and 4 of column 3 add to 10.

Normal [orthogonal] beachcomber rules apply: The digit X inside a circle indicates that a total of X digits less than X can be seen in the cells radiating orthogonally from that circle. Digits larger than X block the view. There is no negative constraint, i.e., not all circles are necessarily shown.

This is a predecessor to my puzzle Biloxi. The two puzzles can be solved in either order.

And here is the main puzzle:

Arvada in the CtC app.

The title continues a tradition started by ICHTUES of naming puzzles after seemingly random North American metropolises.

Dear wisty, Qodec, Chilly, Quilty, and Lizzy - thank you for solving! I wonder whether being 'disposed' toward this rule set is a genetic thing or not haha... like being able to fold your tongue in half.

Very nice! It took me much shorter than it took Simon, which is not exactly a common thing for me. But that might be from the experience with the similar watchtower rule, especially from setting this one myself:

It took me a while to understand a simple implication of the ruleset. After, it became more playable.
Brilliant and minimalistic setting.
Well done, glum_hippo.
