Origin (Coordinate arrows/Negators)

(Published on 21. October 2023, 16:10 by dumediat)

This puzzle was inspired by a gift I received from Piatato during Secret Satan 2022 called Hell's Coordinates, which I encourage everyone to try. It uses the Coordinate Arrows constraint created by Aaronomys and Piatato (please check out their puzzles using the constraint as well!) along with negators, which I think provided some interesting interactions.

Ratings, comments, and feedback are much appreciated! Please feel free to reach out to me on Discord if you have any comments or questions. Please also feel free to try my other puzzles here.

Rules:

  • Place the digits 0 to 8 in the grid such that digits do not repeat in any row, column, or 3x3 box.
  • Nine cells (one in each row, column, and 3x3 box) are negators. A negator cell's value is equal to the negative of the digit placed in it. Each digit appears in exactly one negator.
  • Numbers on an arrow spell out the coordinates for the value that is their sum. The row number is written on the start of the arrow, the column number is written on the arrow tip. Numbers outside the grid indicate the row and column numbers for this puzzle. For example, if r0c0 was 3 and r1c1 was -2, then r3c-2 would be 1. Each arrow must correspond to a different coordinate. Digits may repeat on an arrow if allowed by other rules. Any arrow may index a cell on itself.

Miraculous setup, I very much appreciated this impressive work of setting!
I had a lot of fun figuring out the implications of this great twist on one of my favourite constraints. Another amazing puzzle to the CA collection, thanks a lot :)

I really like CA puzzles and the use of zero due to their special logic. This one was mindblowing for the additional use of negators which work very well in both parts of the puzzle. Brilliant!

Clarified that solution code does not require a negative sign.

Brilliant and mind-bending puzzle!

Absolutely fantastic construction, just sheer brilliance and creativity. When one first encounters this ruleset (and especially the magic of the first CA puzzle), it feels like it could only yield a just a few, rather similar puzzles, and yet here we are with absolutely different CA puzzles, all just equally mindblowing in their own way. Congrats to you, and to all for all these amazing creations!
