Different Differences

(Published on 21. October 2023, 19:43 by marty_sears)

This is part 2 of my Differences series.

Part 1: Same Difference

Part 2: Different Differences

Part 3: Same Zifference

Part 4: Spot the Difference

Part 5: Diffambiguate

Part 6: Pseudo Differences

Part 7: Ziffer Spots

Part 8: Ziffers of Entropy

Part 9: Difference Diamonds

Part 10: Some Difference

Part 11: ???

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • SAME DIFFERENCE LINES: Every pair of adjacent digits on a turquoise line has the same difference. However, this 'difference value' may be different for different turquoise lines.
  • DIFFERENT DIFFERENCE LINES: No two pairs of adjacent digits on a peach coloured line may have the same difference. Eg: if there is a 2 next to a 4 on a peach line, there can't be a 7 next to a 9 on the same line.
  • KROPKI DOTS: Digits joined by a black dot are in a 1:2 ratio, ie; one is double the other.
  • COUNTING CIRCLES: A digit in a circle indicates exactly how many times that digit appears in a circle.

I did way more brute forcing than I should have, but still a good puzzle.

The counting circles rule was good for a laugh, but this puzzle was no joke. Fairly challenging including a spot I thought for sure I had broken it. Very rewarding solve

Very nice!
I sense you're somewhat allergic to given digits? ;)

Marty: Whatever gave you that idea? ;)

Very nice! I feel like the different difference lines might have some legs to them.

Gosh, those different differences take a lot more thought and I confess I made zero progress for a while before seeing how to begin. Lovely puzzle.

Digits 1 to 9 contain maximum 8 differnces values. Box 7 line is 10 cell long with total 9 differences. How is that ?

Reply: that is exactly the right first question to be asking :)

Brilliant puzzle! Same difference lines are fun, but different difference lines make a difference. They have some really beautiful, intrinsic logic and much potential. Thanks:)

A really rewarding solve! Just remember that different different difference lines can have different differences and everything will turn out fine (different same difference lines can of course also have different differences, just be careful is all I'm saying).
