Frak Redux (Ten Lines)

(Published on 25. October 2023, 09:00 by tallcat)

Yet another puzzle for my "Zetamath-inspired" list, this one uses the ten line constraint (first used here) as well as taking some inspiration in the title (see here). This puzzle came together surprisingly quickly - which was unusual as I have not solved many ten lines puzzles prior. I hope you enjoy it!

Normal Sudoku rules apply

Ten Lines: Each line consists of one or more contiguous groups of cells, each of which sums to 10. These groups of cells cannot overlap; every cell is part of one group. Digits may repeat freely on lines and even within sums.

For example, 23573 would be a valid fill for a length 5 line, because it can be divided as 235|73.

Can be played online at f-puzzles or Sudokupad

Solution code: Row 8 (left to right) and column 5 (top to bottom). 18 digits, no spaces.

Very neat opening along with a clever solve afterwards, well done!

Cool break-in, fun follow up. Really nice puzzle.

The break-in was not too difficult, only a single area is interesting. From there it is not easy but once you know it must be there, you will find it finally. After placing the first three digits, there is only one trap to avoid.

Beautiful puzzle! Very nice break-in and very smooth thereafter barring a delightful small bump in the road while determining column 3 in box 4.

Beautifully constructed puzzle, loved the break-in (~4*) and the following flow (~3*).

The break-in is brilliant! And so is the rest of this puzzle. I felt it was 3.5 difficulty

That was beautiful - but quite a monster! I certainly didn’t struggle this much with Frak. I did enjoy every minute of the puzzle though :)
