Mods & Quads

(Published on 14. October 2023, 00:11 by marty_sears)

This is the second in a mini-series that myself and ThePedallingPianist have created together.

Part 1: Mods

Part 2: Mods and Quads

Part 3: Mods, Quads and Odds

Part 4: Mods, Quads, Odds and Schröds

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Turquoise lines are 'Same Difference' lines. Each pair of adjacent digits on one of these lines has the same difference. However, this 'difference value' may be different for different lines.
  • Each quad circle contains four digits which must appear in the four surrounding cells. Unfortunately these quad clues have all been written in white text, and so are invisible. Digits might repeat within a quad circle.
  • Furthermore, a digit in a quad circle indicates exactly how many times that digit appears in a quad circle. Eg: if there is a 5 in a quad circle, there are five 5s in quad circles, and some of these might be in the same circle.

Surprising and difficult. Had to use a lot of corner marks to figure it out but still enjoyed it.

Wew, I struggled for 20 hours and then gave up. Months later I came back to give it another try and I solved the remaining bit in 20 minutes! Really needed a fresh mind there :D

That is a wonderful puzzle and not too hard once you correctly understand the rules. I find it amazing that quads can be used in such a way.
