The Kingdom of Osiris (S-cells)

(Published on 7. October 2023, 14:24 by gdc)

My first attempt at a Schrödinger sudoku. The title references the world between life and death from a religion that was all about cats. Thanks to the CtC fan discord for testing and feedback.

  • Schrödinger Sudoku: Place one or two of the digits from 0-6 in every empty cell such that each digit appears exactly once in every row, column and box.
  • Values: The value of a cell is the sum of its digit(s).
  • Between Line: Values on a between-line are between the values in the nearest circles.
  • Disjoint: Cells with two digits are called S-cells. No digit may appear more than two times in an S-cell.

Example

The S-cells in this example are highlighted in brown. Each S-cell contains two digits which compliment their rows, columns and boxes to contain all the digits 0 through 4. Each digit except 4 appears exactly two times in an S-cell. It wouldn't be allowed to have a third 2 in an S-cell. The short between-line behaves like a thermo. The long between-line is satisfied since the ends have values of 0 and 5 (2+3) and all values on the connecting line are from 1 through 4 (including the S-cells on the line). You can play the example here.

Lore

Osiris was an egyptian god that was killed, cut into thousands of pieces and then his remains were thrown into the nil river. He was swept into so many places at once, not even Scrödinger could explain that. Why? So his sister (who was also his wife) couldn't use her ressurrection magic to bring him back to life. But his sis' did it anyways, or at least she tried. Unfortunately, something went wrong. Either because one of the pieces was missing (yes, it was that manly piece) or it took her too long to find all the pieces and frankenstein them together.

Since the ressurection, Osiris is in a state where he is neither dead or alive and teleports between the real world and the underworld whenever he is observed by cats. He used to work as a bouncer for the underworld, but Mahaf took over that position later. This allowed Osiris to move up and eventually become the underworld CEO. (Well, on paper it's his dog Anubis who is the CEO, but don't ask me how that works.)

Solution code: Row 2 with no spaces with the S-cell in ascending order (7 digits). For the 4 by 4 example, this would be 23104.

Update rules wording (thanks @martin1456)

Not explicitly written here, but I guess „normal Schrödinger rules“ also means that every digit does occur in every row, column and box.

Very nice use of the Schrödinger constraint.
