Kropki Triominos

(Published on 2. October 2023, 17:52 by ElChiglia)

---- RULES ----

Non-Standard Sudoku rules apply: Fill every white cell with a digit from 1-8 (not 9!) such that no digit repeats within a row, column, or 3x3 box. Gray cells contain no digits.

Kropki Triominos: Every white cell is part of exactly one Kropki Triomino (a group of 3 orthogonally connected cells). Within each triomino, the central digit is in a 1:2 ratio with one of the other digits in the triomino and consecutive with the remaining one.

Squares: A square indicates that the respective digit is part of the 1:2 ratio pair within its triomino. Furthermore, the digit indicates how many of the up to 9 surrounding cells (including itself) are part of such a 1:2 ratio pair in their respective triomino.

Circles: A circle indicates that the respective digit is part of the pair of consecutive digits within its triomino. Furthermore, the digit indicates how many of the up to 9 surrounding cells (including itself) are part of such a pair of consecutive digits in their respective triomino.

Wow, this was super fun. The double clue threw me for a loop until i finally wrapped my head around it.

I would have solved this MUCH faster had i not forgotten halfway through the puzzle that "gray squares have no digits, and there are no nines". Turns out the puzzle has no solution if you ignore that! But once I remembered, it became quite fun and moved right along again.

Nicely done!

thanks once again for your kind feedback to my puzzle(s)! In retrospect I think maybe I should have put more effort in trying to build a 6x6 example with a double clue (I tried a lot back then, but did not manage :) ). Though I think it is also a nice step to discover during the solve (not sure all solvers shared that opinion though).
And yes, the missing 9 and the grey cells cause some counterintuitive cases and indeed would result in a broken puzzle if one tries to fill the grid entirely :)

Very nice puzzle. I got tricked in the first try by the double clue. But once I discovered my mistake, it was a nice solid solve.
