Find and Take Out The Killers

(Published on 19. September 2023, 03:17 by RockyRoer)

The Rules:

  1. Normal sudoku rules apply. Fill every row, column, and 3x3 box with numbers from 1-9.
  2. [Killer]Cages are killer cages. They must not contain any repeated digit. Killer cages must all sum to the same total, which must be deduced.
  3. [Negators] In every row, column, and 3x3 box there must be exactly one shaded cell. Every digit must appear in a shaded cell once. All shaded cells in killer cages count as negative instead of positive. For example, a cage containing 3, 5 and a shaded 2 would sum to 6.

The Puzzle: Try it on CTC

Solution code: Column 8, from top to bottom, using - for negative numbers: e.g. 38-1245976

Changed German solution code prompt to match English (should now say column 8...) How in the world did I mess that up?

This was really fun to solve. I’ll admit it took be a bit to get started and figure out the cage total but once I figured out why my math wasn’t mathing it was really clever. Plus I enjoyed how it felt challenging for me without completely stumping me, I find that’s a very fine line to walk so kudos.

Beautiful execution of the concept!
Determining the main cage total was rather quick but the real interesting parts started right after that, and there're some weird but also surprising deductions as well (esepcially that one 5 cells cage in c34) :)
