Discord Line Squadron

(Published on 12. September 2023, 20:26 by Kafkapharnaum)

A curated selection of multilines from a series of smaller puzzles I ran on Discord. If you enjoy these and would like to take the next step up, that next step up would be Maverick, a relatively approachable 8x8 that is very much thematically in line with this pack :D

REGION SUMS (blue)
– Digits along a blue line have an equal sum within each box (region) this line passes through

RENBANS (red)
– Digits along a red line form a sequence of non-repeating consecutive digits in any order

PALINDROMES (gray)
– Digits along a gray line must read the same in either direction (eg, 24142)

GERMAN WHISPERS (green)
– Adjacent digits along a green line must have a difference of at least 5. Digits can repeat on a green line

DOPPELGANGER
– Every row, column, and box (or region) contains the digit 0 always, as well as three (four/five) out of the four (five/six) digits from 1 to 4 (5/6) (ie, it's missing one digit that is not 0)
– No two row, no two column, and no two box (region) may be missing the same digit
– For each 0 in the grid, the digits missing in its row, its column, and its box (region) must be three different digits
(Note that a zero always acts as itself – ie, the lowest possible value – regardless of what digits it's replacing in its box (region), row and column)

SOLVING LINKS [with track cells – no solution check]
I. Falcon
II. Golden Eye
III. Opal
IV. U.F.O.
V. Shooting Star
VI. Racer

Solution code: For each puzzle in the order they are presented here (see the links above), the corner digits in the bottom left cell and the top right cell (12 digits total)

very nice and not so easy as the size may suggest. Well deserved rating. Thanks.

Thank you so much for the solve and kind words marcmees (and for triggering the rating too!), I'm thrilled you enjoyed this lot!

A bunch of lovely little puzzles. Lots of interesting deductions in here, and cool interactions, even in the smaller ones. Always impressive when you make small puzzles have this level of intricate logic.
(Also, I agree that Racer is the hardest one. Took me quite a bit longer to find the start on that one than the others)

Fabulous little set of puzzles! I was surprised/pleased to find Racer much easier than Shooting Star. I think I missed these on discord and was keen to try them as warmup for Maverick! The pack really showcased a lot of the different approaches to solving these puzzles - great fun as ever :)
..................
Another awesome surprise, thank you so much! Me too I was sure you had already solved those, I'm glad they could offer you something new and you had fun solving them! About Star, it's true there's a pretty advanced/sneaky deduction in it, but I just thought there was more to figure out as a whole in Racer. Still I like to think if you found that one easier it's just because you're getting better and better with the ruleset, and in any case, it's a joy to see you go through all these puzzles! :D

Very fun set of puzzles, while being (somewhat) approachable, each one with its own "aha" moment. The hardest for me were the Golden Eye and the Racer, I broke that one around 5 times because I was convinced that the R345 palindrome had to be 3 times the same digit. It's incredible how you managed to squeeze much logic into small grids with the same rulesets !
..........
Thank you so much for the solve(s) and for the kind words, I'm happy you enjoyed the pack! And for sure, they were selected cause they were the ones that had the most headscratching material hehe :D Your continued support is super appreciated!

Wonderful little pack! Loads of beautifull little tricks throughout. I'm very happy that I remembered to go back and solve these, what a treat! :)

Though being familiar with your logical approach even those tiny little puzzles have unexpected moments. So they're really funny to solve and a precious break-in for the harder Doppelganger versions (which I recommend to try everyone who is interested in!!). Thanks for your endurance to share this kind of puzzles!
..............
Thank you for solving these as well, I'm happy to hear you had fun solving them -- I certainly had fun making them! It does take some endurance to get a new unusual ruleset off the ground, doesn't it...
To be fair though, these have a slightly larger following on Discord, where it's more acceptable to publish puzzles at a faster pace (including many small ones). But then again, the tougher ones tends to fare a little bit better here. Still trying to figure all of this out. Oh well, in th meantime, thank YOU for trying all of these puzzles!
