(Published on 8. September 2023, 07:40 by tesseralis)

Inspired by the impossible objects of M.C. Escher, a sample platter of puzzling impossibilities for your consideration.

Rules

Normal sudoku rules apply.

Digits on an arrow sum to the digit in the circle. Digits on a thermometer increase from the bulb. Adjacent digits on a green line differ by at least 5. Digits on a purple line consist of a set of consecutive non-repeating digits.

Exactly six clues are wrogn, i.e. incorrect.

I've been working on this puzzle sporadically for the last few weeks but it's done now. I like to solve these on pen & paper for the ability to make a new symmetric sub-grid whenever I want and consider one of the options. https://imgur.com/a/VewcU6S

This puzzle is very beautiful and hard, it needs a lot of concentration to figure out the relation between boxes.

Thank you.

Solving this felt like making loops on infinite stairs ! And I mean that in a good way, because you have to revisit the clues several times to make progress and climb up to the solution. I’m not surprised you are fond of M.C. Escher, as you are yourself quite the artist combining beautiful design and mathematical curiosités. Thanks :)

Hi ~tess, may I ask what is the definition of wrogn? Is it partially wrogn or completely wrogn? E.g. for a German Whisper, is it counted wrogn if any adjacent digits on the line are not differed by at least 5, or whole line can't contain adjacent digits differed by 5? Thank you.

partially wrogn
