Nightmare on Fillo Street

(Published on 7. September 2023, 00:37 by Jay Dyer)

Another puzzle with a ruleset based on that of Zetamath's puzzle Zeta's Nightmare. But for a different type of setting challenge I decided to apply the ruleset to fillomino instead.

Rules

  • Divide the grid into ominoes (orthogonally connected regions) such that no two ominoes of the same size share an edge. Each cell contains a number equal to it's omino's size.
  • A line connecting two circles is either a double arrow, or a between line, but not both. The identity of each line must be determined by the solver.
  • Double arrow: the sum of the numbers on the line equals the sum of the numbers in the circles.
  • Between line: the numbers on the line are all between, and not equal to, the numbers in the circles.

Solve in Sudokupad or Penpa+.

On a side note, I have a Patreon page as well, if you are interested in supporting my puzzle-making there. I also post patron-exclusive puzzles of various genres there each month.

Solution code: Column 3, with no separators between numbers.

I didn't notice the "not both" part until I thought I had finished and wasn't getting the right code. Great puzzle!

It is stunning! I feel I've broken it few times during the solve but there are always clever ways to escape. Love it!

Thanks, KNT! Indeed I missed the “not both” condition.

Wonderful puzzle! Thanks!

@twobear: one of the regions in the first half of your code is of the wrong size. double check the ‘not both’ part of the rules.
