Chaos Construction
Divide the grid into regions, each consisting of nine orthogonally connected cells. Each row, column and region contains the digits 1-9 once each.
X-Sums
A clue outside the grid is the sum of the first X cells in the corresponding row/column, where X is the digit in the cell nearest to the clue.
In addition, in every row/column with a clue, the first X cells are in the same region, and the X+1th cell is in a different region.
A ?-clue also has this region building property but the sum is unknown.
Even
The cell with the gray square contains an even digit.

I'm a chaos construction sudoku aficionado, taking on pretty much every CC that comes my way, which by now must total more than a hundred. And I have to say: This puzzle is the most exemplary CC sudoku I can think of, for the density and quality of classic CC logic it contains - including region connectivity, digit squeezing, and most importantly, [REDACTED] - is second to none. If anyone ever were to write a guide for setting and/or solving CC, this puzzle must be featured as the prime example.

Well done, and dare I say... approachable? - given a two hour solve that is :) The logic is solid and fun and tricky, yet found the way through. Thanks!

Wun-der-schön! Und wenn man etwas besser aufpasst als ich, dann beschreitet man einen richtig gut ausgebauten Lösungsweg mit drei Sternen. Vielen Dank für dieses Juwel!
