Anti Knight Kuromasu

(Published on 2. September 2023, 19:58 by SirWoezel)

It's been a while since I created a puzzle that I'm happy about, but here it is. It combines Sudoku and Kuromasu.

RULES:

Normal Sudoku rules apply. There is an anti-knight constraint. The yellow cells form an extra region, which must contain the numbers 1 to 9 each once.

Some cells in the grid need to be shaded.

- The number in a circle shows how many unshaded cells can be 'seen' from that cell horizontally or vertically, including the cell itself. Shaded cells block the view.

- Shaded cells may not be horizontally or vertically adjacent.

- All the unshaded cells must be connected horizontally or vertically.

- Numbers outside the grid show how many cells in that row/column must be shaded.

- Cells with a circle are never shaded.

As always, have fun!

Wow. I have had this puzzle open for over a week. Kept coming back to it because I could see the logic. Finally got the shading last night and the finish still took a while! Great puzzle!!

Thanks for not giving up. I didn’t think this was going to get large numbers of solves because of the difficulty, but 4 is pretty disappointing. I should probably have added another clue somehow.

This puzzle should be treated very very carefully. After trying to solve it for 2 hours, I found something wrong with my steps, but it was almost impossible to check it out. So I restarted and spent another 3 hours on the solution.

I suppose there’s no negative constraint on the circles right? (i.e not all circles are given)

Can a circled cell be shaded? And if so, does it block its own view?

No, circled cells are never shaded. I notice I did specify that here on LMG but I forgot it in the rules in SudokuPad. I’ll add that when I get home later.
