Polymorphic Chaos

(Published on 22. August 2023, 13:53 by thoughtbyte)

Inspired by the excellent Polymorphic Rooms.

Each row, column, and region in the central 9x9 grid must contain the digits from 1 to 9 exactly once. Each region is a set of orthogonally connected cells and must be determined by the solver.

Region sum lines: digits along a blue line sum to the same value in each region it passes through (outside the central 9x9 grid is considered one region for the region sum lines). If a line passes through a region more than once, each time it passes through counts separately. Region sum lines must belong to at least two different regions. Different lines may have different sums.

Numbered rooms: digits placed on lines outside the central 9x9 grid are numbered rooms clues and they indicate the digit which has to be placed in the Nth cell in the corresponding direction, where N is the digit placed in the first cell in that direction. For each clue, the first and Nth cells must be in the same region.

My first thought was "oh, easy break-in, r1c3 = 2 and r2c1 = 3." My second thought was "wait no"

Anyway, lovely puzzle

In the German version 'Unterschiedliche Zeilen können unterschiedliche Summen haben.' must read 'Unterschiedliche Linien können unterschiedliche Summen haben.' Zeilen means rows.
