Doppelgänger (Clone/palindrome killer sudoku)

(Published on 21. August 2023, 19:25 by sujoyku)

I enjoyed solving the recently uploaded clone killer sudoku "Disappearing Birds" by CaptZebraCakes so much that I felt like setting a puzzle of similar type myself. CaptZebraCakes also has been so kind to test it. Thank you very much for the support!

As always your comments and suggestions are highly appreciated. I wish you happy solving!

- Normal sudoku rules apply.

- Killer cages: Digits in a cage do not repeat and sum to the clue in the top left.

- Clones: Grey shaded areas are clones, i.e. digits must appear in the same relative position in each of the four grey regions. For example, the cell R7C1 has to contain the same digit as R3C3.

- Palindrome: The digits on a grey line form a palindrome, i.e. they read the same forward and backward.

- Arrows: Digits on an arrow sum to the digit in the circle from which the arrow emerges, i.e. the 1-cell arrows indicate two positions of the same digit.

I really loved this puzzle, not sure I disambiguated the digits in the intended way though.

Thank you for the comment, Dr Logic! I am glad that you enjoyed the solve. Why do you think you did not follow the intended solve path? If you like to give details, I would love to know about your methods.

I am always a sucker for a colouring puzzle. Great fun. Thank you.
p.s. glad I didn't see the spoiler before I solved it. I actually went a different way, working out that there was only one option for the shared digits in the 8 cage and the box 1 10 cage. It was probably a little more long-winded than the intended path but enjoyable none-the-less.

**
Thank you for your comment, katy.lanka! I am glad that you had a fun solve. Probably, there are different ways how to resolve the digits in the final phase of the puzzle. Nice that you enjoyed your own path through it.
Kind regards, sujoyku

This one was fun. Without revealing more than already has been in the comments I agree that is felt harder putting numbers in colors than colors in cells.

**
Thank you for commenting, elnahal! I am glad that you had fun with the puzzle.

Great puzzle. Loved it! I took a similar approach, but used letters instead of colors. Got to the solution pretty quickly (for me).

Very cool how fast it finishes off. I placed all colors and then smashed every digit all at once.

I certainly agree that the coloring was mighty easy, but the numbers were not. I'm gonna admit I guessed, and went from there to see if they fit the cages. I got it first try, but I honestly couldn't find the logic on how to actually find them! Either way, I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you!

**
Thank you for your comment, aerenhart! I am glad that you enjoyed the puzzle. There is a strictly logical way to disambiguate which digit is represented by which colour and no guessing is required. To avoid spoilers, I won't give the explanation here, but keep it to a hidden comment.

Nice, 2-star coloring puzzle. Had more issues putting numbers in colors than colors in cells!

**
Thank you for your comment, julien505! I am glad that you liked the puzzle. And I think your observation is spot on: here the colouring is actually easier than finding out which colour has to be representing which digit. :)

I do like it too, never with letters, always with colors. Just a little bit too easy.

Colouring puzzles are my favourite. Although I do it with letters...

Thanks for a great puzzle.

Thank you for your comment, Megalobrainiac! I am glad that you also enjoy colouring puzzles and had a fun solve. When setting I used letters as well. :)
