Think X-Sums, but with maxima and minima instead of sums. This should be a gentle intro to the constraint.
Rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply.
X-tremes: Clues outside the grid give the lowest and the highest digit among the first X digits from the direction of the clue, where X is the first digit from the direction of the clue. If only one number is present, the solver must determine if it is the lowest or highest.
For example, the above row is valid since among the first four digits from the left, the lowest digit is 3 and the highest digit is 8. The clue may also just say "3" or just say "8."
