PUZZLE:

RULES:

Normal Sudoku rules apply.

Killer: The value of digits within a cage must sum to the number in the top-left corner (if given). Digits must not repeat within a Killer cage.
Odd/Even: Digits within Circle cells are Odd; digits within Square cells are Even.

MODIFIER:

Doubler: There are 9 Doubler cells contained within the grid comprised of a set of the digits from 1-to-9. Each row, column and box contains exactly one Doubler cell.

for Killer values
Doublers contribute twice the value of the digit in that cell to cage totals.

Stadiometer: From left-to-right, the digit of each Doubler cell indicates the row location of the Doubler cell in the next column (e.g. if there is a Doubler at R1C1 that is an 8, there is a Doubler at R8C2).

INTRODUCTION:

This is mostly a proof of concept, as well as a means to get over a bit of setter's block. Having never made an indexing-style puzzle before, I found this to be quite an interesting one to set. There's a certain energy to a puzzle where you need to bounce around the grid a little and to not think so linearly (and hopefully you find that same energy in your solve!).

An example puzzle will follow to better illustrate the rules.

Have fun!

After more than a year away from sudoku solving, I felt like solving one again, and the good memories I had from solving your puzzles drew me back where I had left off. It was nice to be back. No promises for the future, but thanks for your enjoyable sudokus, and merry Christmas.

@Paquet Voleur -- Merry Christmas! and I hope you're well. You had such a hiatus that I was a bit worried but I figured it was likely life getting in the way, as it's prone to do. I had a bit of a hiatus from setting as well there myself, for awhile. I think Sudoku is one of those things you can always come back to when you need and it will accept you with open arms <3 -- VKP

I like this puzzle. Stadiometer is super interesting.

Are the 7-cell cage in box 6 and the 4-cell cage in box 9 just for aesthetics?

Excellent puzzle! A very nice, smooth, and not too tough intro to stadiometers. Thanks.

The doublers rule variant makes the puzzle surprisingly smooth. Well done !

Awesome puzzle with beautiful logic. I usually struggle with indexing but this stadiometer constraint is quite simple to understand and work with. Hope it catches on!

Thanks for saying! I think I've got a handle on the constraint and it was fun to make, so expect to see more <3 -- VKP
