Ninja Sudoku #2 - Sandwich Arrows

(Published on 19. August 2023, 11:40 by Jeremy)

Welcome,

This is my second ever created Sudoku puzzle (first published on this website) and consists of the variants 'Sandwich', 'Arrows' and an extra rule that was dubbed as 'Ninja' by the solvers at Cracking the Cryptic when I sent in my first sudoku several years ago. I hope you have fun solving it! The rules to the puzzle can be found below the image.

Rules:

- Normal Sudoku rules apply: Enter the digits 1 to 9 in each row/column/region(3x3).

- Arrow (variant) rules apply: The digits on the length of an arrow sum to the digit inside the circle of the arrow.

- Sandwich (variant) rules apply: Numbers outside the grid indicate the sum of the cells that are in between the 1 and the 9 cell in that row/column.

- Ninja (variant) rules apply: There are 9 hidden 'ninja's' in the grid, one in each row/column/region. Each ninja is represented by a regular unique sudoku digit but counts as a value of zero for the purpose of all variant clues.
I.e. A ninja cell would not count towards the total of a sandwich clue if it's in between the 1 and 9 in a given row/column and a ninja cell on an arrow (either in the length of the arrow or in the circle) adds a value of zero to the sum.

The puzzle can be solved using the software at

Solution code: Enter the digits of row #4 into the solution code.

Thx for taking the time to solve my puzzle, any feedback is appreciated!

In regards to the question: if the 1 or 9 in a sandwich clue is a ninja, it doesn't change anything for the sandwich clue. If the ninja is inside the circle of an arrow, that arrows total sum is 0. If a ninja appears along the length of an arrow it adds a value of 0 to the sum.

Something's not working for me on this one. If a ninja cell appears in the circle of an arrow, is the value of the arrow 0, or does it "add a value of 0" to itself? Can a ninja cell be on a 1 or 9 that is part of a sandwich clue? If so, how does it affect the constraint?

A challenging and rewarding solve - thanks :-)

FYI - I often wished i had the multi colored cells option of CTC to notate both the sandwich and ninja.
