Slitherlink Cave Sudoku

(Published on 16. August 2023, 14:05 by RockyRoer)

Here's a little chaos construction for all of you who enjoy negative constraints.

The Rules

  1. [Chaos Construction]Normal irregular sudoku rules apply - but the regions must be determined by the solver. Also, fill the grid with the digits 0 through 8
  2. [Slitherlink] Draw in borders around each region. Squared cells are slitherlink clues describing how many of the four edges surrounding the cell contain a border. ALL POSSIBLE SQUARES ARE GIVEN. (Note, unlike normal slitherlink where there is only one loop, there are nine ‘loops' in this grid - one around each region).
  3. [Cave] Numbers in circled clues in the grid indicate how many cells within that region can be seen from that location, including that cell, where region boundaries stop the line of sight. ALL POSSIBLE CIRCLES ARE GIVEN.

An Example Puzzle:

Try the example on CTC App (answer check on digits only)

The Actual Puzzle:

Try it on CTC App (answer check on digits only)

Solution code: Row 6 from left to right, with x's for region boundaries -- the example would be 51432x0

Epic puzzle, the negative contraint left me mildly paranoid the entire solve, but all the double checking also put me on ease that I was on the right path.

Oh no! I missed the one cell that was supposed to be the circle and square! Thanks KNT for noticing and making me aware!

Future solvers: R2C2 should be both a circle and a square.

Reply: Yes!! Thanks for letting me know -- link and picture should be correct now.

Example puzzle was fun but this one didnt even start for me. Stared at it for way too long.

Reply: I'm so sorry! It had a very obvious break in that was totally lost because I forgot the one cell that's both square and circle... I hope you'll be willing to give it another go with the corrections made

Reply: i already did after KNT's comment and loved the puzzle. I knew something was off because there was only one solve and usually your puzzles get lot of attention.
