Shocking arrows

(Published on 26. July 2023, 12:24 by TwinSetter)

This is the first puzzle I've ever set, hope you enjoy solving it!

Puzzle Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Cells separated by a black dot contain digits in a 1:2 ratio.
  • Cells separated by a white dot contain consecutive digits.
  • Digits along an arrow must sum to the digit in that arrow's circle.
  • Additionally, the circles of arrows are shockwave centers: the digit x in the center cannot repeat in cells that are x or less orthogonal steps away from the center.
  • The digits in the circles of arrows are unique, and there is at most one circle in every box.
  • There is one invisible arrow: it has at least one correct set of positions for all its parts, follows all the above rules and cannot overlap with other arrows at any part.

Nice, the shock wave was quite powerful, especially when looking for the hidden arrow
(BTW, orthogonal steps is often referred to as taxicab distance)

Very nice, especially for a first puzzle!

This felt trickier than 2 stars to me, though it was still very enjoyable. I'm not sure whether the rules should explicitly state that the hidden arrow must cover at least 2 cells, as I had a difficult time eliminating the possibility of a 1-cell arrow with a 1 in the bulb, so I eventually assumed that couldn't be the case.

Edit by setter: I'm not sure if this is what people do to reply to others on this website, but here I go:
Thank you for the nice reply! I purposefully left that rule out, as it is possible to determine whether or not the 1-1 arrow is possible :)

Whoohoo! I really like the concept of unique arrows, especially in combination with the shock wave
