Knightline 2 (Antiknight, Renban, Whispers)

(Published on 24. July 2023, 20:29 by gdc)

The title of this anti-knight puzzle is a reference to "nightlines", a public transport service in the area where I live. Bus number 2 connects me to tasty German beers.

Play Online: CTC, Sudokulab, f-puzzles

Rules

Normal Sudoku Rules
Place the digits 1 through 9 in each empty cell. Digits must not repeat within the same row, column, or box.
Anti-Knight
Digits must not repeat in cells that are a chess knight's move apart.
Renban Lines
Digits along each pink renban line must be a set of consecutive digits in any order, and must not repeat.
German Whisper Lines
Adjacent digits along each green german whisper line must have a difference of at least 5.

Remarks

The CTC version was exported from f-puzzles so that the colors an other styles for the constraints confirm to the standards. The rule violation checks for the lines currently only work with f-puzzles and sudokulab.

Regarding difficulty I had troubles to disambiguate twos and threes lately. I think this should sit right in the middle between two and three stars.

Hints

Click on the grey boxes if you have trouble getting started in this puzzle.
  • Focus on the whisper line in box 5 and the C-shaped renban line right next to it (to the left). Show that those two lines cannot share any digits i.e. each digit on the renban sees each digit on the whisper and vice versa.
  • Conclude that the whisper line in the middle must contain the digits 1289 once each.
  • Focus on the renban line in the middle and the U-Shaped renban line right next to it (to the right). Show that those two lines cannot share any digits.
  • Conclude that the U-shaped renban line is either 3456 or 4567 (in any order)

Solution code: Row 1 (9 digits)

Loved it. I was the 100th solver on CTC app and it took me exactly 100 minutes to solve. I’d hate to be 999th solver with 999 minute solve time :)
