Never two apart

(Published on 16. July 2023, 15:16 by sujoyku)

This puzzle features an adjacency constraint which is similar to anti-consecutive logic: Orthogonally adjacent digits may never differ by exactly two. Feel free to tell me in the comments what you think about the variant. I wish you happy solving!

- Normal sudoku rules apply.

- Adjacency restriction: Orthogonally adjacent digits never differ by exactly 2, e.g. the digit 3 may not be orthogonally adjacent to either 1 or 5.

Fun puzzle.
Took a couple of minute to rearrange the brain from the usual one to two digit difference, but after that it was smooth. Just a little more pencilmarking than usual and then it came together.

A very smooth solve, and the difficulty price is fair. Kept wondering if this ruleset would work in fog puzzle.
Nice work, Sujoyku, as always.

Thank you for your comment, Fisherman! I am glad that you had a smooth solve.
Your idea to use this constraint in a fog puzzle is an interesting suggestion. The adjacency restriction "does a lot of damage" to surrounding cells. Thus, it could already give useful information even in a small window of the grid. I have not built a fog puzzle myself yet (and do not know how it works softwarewise) but if I try it I will keep your comment in mind.

I was surprised I got box 1 so fast. Definitely an easy puzzle - mostly a matter of remembering how to add/subtract two on a Sunday morning (hah!) Thanks!

**
Hey danmeehan91324, thank you for your comment! The adjacency constraint is a strong condition. Therefore this puzzle is definitely not minimal with respect to given digits (I suspect it should not be too difficult to construct one with around 10 given digits). Maybe I will construct a harder puzzle with this rule set in the near future.
Kind regards, sujoyku
