This puzzle is a novel hybrid of Sudoku and Guide Arrow. Enjoy!
  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • Guide Arrow:
    • Shade some empty cells so that no two shaded cells are orthogonally adjacent and the remaining unshaded cells form one orthogonally connected area.
    • No complete loop of cells may be unshaded (including 2×2s).
    • An arrow indicates the only direction in which one could begin a path to the star without going through a shaded cell or backtracking.
  • Each arrow must be rotated clockwise by D×90°, where D is the digit in that arrow's cell.
  • For each arrow, the sum of the next two digits along the path to the star must equal the digit in that arrow's cell.
  • The location of the star is to be discovered, but it must not be in a cell that is part of an arrow's sum.
Normal Guide Arrow rules can also be found here on Puzzlink. The only changes are that the location of the star is initially unknown and that the arrows can rotate.

A 4x4 example puzzle is shown below which can be solved in Penpa:

Answer check triggers for the example with the correct digits, shading and the star placed in the correct cell.

Solving on Puzzle TV is recommended as the arrows clues can be manually rotated and they will automatically rotate to the correct associated direction when digits are entered in their cells. Thanks to Chameleon for constructing this version.

Solve on Penpa

Answer check for Puzzle TV requires digits and shading, while SudokuPad just requires digits, and Penpa requires blue digits, shading in grey/black and a star in the correct cell.

Finally understood what I was missing last time I tried this ! Just doing some sudoku sometimes helps... Awesome idea ! Must have take quite a while to find the right combination of arrows that meet aml the requirements : draw the path, resolve the sudoku without breaking, and of course pinpoint the star ! Thanks :)

This one spun me around like a compass in a cyclone. Thankfully, there were illuminating arrows to point the way home!

Absolutely spectacular!
