The Butterfly Defect

(Published on 10. July 2023, 22:37 by Jreg)

So the other day I solved SandraNala's puzzle called "Do(o)ts and Sum Blue (6x6)". [HERE] is a link to that puzzle if you want to see it, it's a cute little five minute solve.

I got a bit stuck on it on my first try because I misinterpreted the initially provided ruleset (it's been clarified since then) and saw a pattern that wasn't there. And that, pretty much, inspired this here puzzle you see before you. I played with it for a little bit and reworked it so that my original mistake is now a valid pattern.

THE RULES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Normal 6×6 Sudoku rules apply: place the digits 1-6 once each in every row, column and 2×3 region.
Region sum lines: digits on a blue line have an equal sum N within each box it passes through. Different lines may have different N values.
Kropki: cells separated by a black dot contain digits in a 1:2 ratio.
Kroopki: sets of digits separated by a black ellipse must have their respective sums be in a 1:2 ratio.

And [HERE] is a Sudokupad link to The Butterfly Defect (with solution checker).

Once again, thanks to SandraNala for the inspiration!

Solution code: Digits in row 1 and digits in row 4 (from left to right, no spaces).

Before I realised the break-in, the puzzle seemed so hard, but once I saw the break-in, I solved it within five minutes. The "eureka" moment was great, going from no digits to a full grid very rapidly.

Oh! Thank you for letting me know that I (accidentally) inspired this really cool puzzle! :)
