Crypto Rotating Japanese Pentopia with Skyscrapers for ibag

(Published on 10. July 2023, 00:51 by KNT)

Place the numbers from 1 to 9 in some cells such that no number repeats in a row or column. Clues above and to the left of the grid indicate the sums of connected groups of numbers in the respective row or column, in order, where empty cells serve as delimeters between groups.

Treat each number N as a building of height N. Clues below and to the right of the grid indicate the number of buildings seen from from that direction, where taller buildings hide shorter buildings.

Some of the empty cells form pentominos: orthogonally connected groups of exactly five empty cells. No pentomino shape may repeat, including rotations and reflections. A cell with an arrow or arrows is never empty, and a number N placed on such a cell rotates the clue by 45N degrees clockwise. After rotation, if the clue is aligned orthogonally, the clue indicates in which orthogonal directions are the nearest pentominos. Likewise, if the clue ends up aligned diagonally, the clue indicates in which diagonal directions are the nearest pentominos.

The letters A to I replace numbers from 0 to 9, and no two letters may replace the same number. A question mark can be any number from 0 to 9, and for all clues, none may have a leading zero.

Superb !
My head is spinning, but I am not sure if it is spinning clockwiqe or anticlockwise...
As other solvers, understanding correctly how blackened cells and the rotating clues worked took me some time. Easy to make some counting errors with the skyscraper clues, but so nice when see it all falls into place. A wonderful gift !
Thanks :)

A small clarification please. Can the digits repeat in a row or column?

@Nensche777: No, they may not.

May the black non-pentomino cells be orthogonally connected to black pentomino-cells?

My brain is dead, thank you. Why in the world would you have rotating clues, you suck. :P

Wow, that looks great, thanks already! Now I'm curious whether I'm up to the task of rotating clockwise - a great challenge for a real maniac ;-)

@Luigi: The clues are pentopia clues, they indicate the direction of the nearest pentominos; the clues, nor the digits placed on the clue digits, do not say anything about the distance to those pentominos. For example, if Row 3 Column 5 was a '2', then the nearest pentomino in the four cardinal directions (up, down, left, and right) would be left.

Likewise, if that same cell was a '3', then the nearest pentomino in the four diagonal directions would be in the northwest direction. I hope this helps!
