Quintessence [Pentominous Fillomino]

(Published on 29. June 2023, 21:28 by MicroStudy)

Rules

  • Fillomino (except 5): Divide the grid into regions of orthogonally-connected cells such that no two regions of the same size share an edge, UNLESS the regions are both of size 5 (pentominoes). Enter a number into each cell equal to the size of its region.
  • Arrows: Numbers on cells with arrows indicate the amount of pentominoes seen in the direction of the arrow. If a cell has two arrows, it indicates the COMBINED amount of pentominoes seen in both directions. If a pentomino is seen by two arrows coming from the same cell, it is counted as being seen once. Cells with arrows can belong to the same region as a seen pentomino. Not all possible arrows are necessarily given.
  • Pentominous: Two orthogonally adjacent pentominoes must be of different shapes, regardless of rotation or reflection.

I am very impressed by this puzzle. I found it original and entertaining all the way through!

Another great fillo concept! First two thirds of the puzzle is really fun and smooth. Some later steps are really tough to spot because you have to survey long diagonals marked by clued cells you already used much earlier in the solve.

This is wonderful! Especially the end of the puzzle is sublime!

No doubt the most amount of 5s I've seen in a fillomino puzzle so far, but that also made for such an engaging (and brainteasing) solve till the very end. Very well done there x)

Awesome fillomino. I enjoyed every minute of it, but I had to take a star off for each F pentomino :P

This puzzle was absolutely phenomenal in my opinion! It was the gift that kept on giving, with lots of very tiny deductions round every corner.

Fun idea and puzzle! Very hard for me, though, it felt a lot harder than 3/5.

Quintessential puzzle !
A very nice twist on fillominos, fun and smooth. The colored grid looks pretty at the end too. All the qualities of a banger !
