Outside clues are either a skyscraper, a sandwich sum or an x-sums. (all of them explained below)
- A valid skyscraper: Each number in the grid represents the height of a building and the clues outside of the grid indicate the number of buildings that can be seen from that perspective.
- A valid sandwich sum: The numbers outside the grid must equal the sum in between the 1 and 9 in their respective horizontal or vertical.
- A valid x-sum: The clue outside the grid is the sum of the first X cells in the corresponding column, where X is the digit in the cell nearest to the clue.
