Normal Sudoku rules apply.
Thermometers: Thermometers visit cells inside the 9x9 grid and in the 11x11 perimeter. They do not intersect but may branch. Every thermometer must include at least one cell in the perimeter. This applies to all branches individually, however the cell that two branches diverge from can fulfil this requirement for both branches.
Skyscraper: A digit in a perimeter cell acts as a skyscraper clue, indicating the count of digits visible along its row or column. A digit is visible if it is larger than all the digits before it.
Fog of War The grid is partially covered in fog. Placing correct digits will clear the fog from surrounding cells in the grid and the perimeter.
Following from solver comments, please note that no guessing is required at any point. The break in is logical but difficult.
Solution code: Row 5 followed by Column 9 of the 9x9 Sudoku grid (18 digits)

I guess you need to say, that digits on the thermometers lines are increasing from the bulb

Fantastic puzzle! Quite tricky but very satisfying to work out the logical path. Thanks!

@vfig that one I know, but @argl who was asking for the explanation isn't on the list of those who have solved it. Some of the puzzle descriptions have text that is only visible if you highlight it, so I was wondering if that was possible in the comments, and if so, what the tag is.

@sanabas select 'hidden comment' under the comment box before submit: then your comment will only be shown to those who have solved the puzzle.

@argl I'm happy to explain how I did the breakin, but I can't figure out what the code is for spoiler tags here.

@wenchang, thank you :). I am too stupid for this and could not find the break-in so i was really hoping one of the smarter solvers posts a solve

@BenTen I think the word you're looking for is basically just a slightly different way of pronouncing 'fog'
on 22. June 2023, 10:20 by BenTen
We should invent a word for that disheartened feeling you get when you enter what you think to be the correct digit but the fog doesn't clear!
Brilliantly crafted puzzle with some fiendish logic in there. Thanks apiyo!

A lot of fun, and there is a logical break-in. Though the first fog-busting digit might be the toughest one to get in the whole puzzle.
on 21. June 2023, 18:18 by vitaminz
There absolutely is a logical way to start.

I prefer puzzle that have a logical start. The idea of having to randomly guess until some fog clears kind of takes the fun out of it for me.
-- I'm sorry you missed the break in volkner! Definitely a difficult first digit, with a few tricky ones to follow as well.
I actually went back looking for it after @vitaminz claimed there was a logical start. I eventually found it. Thanks for the puzzle.
-- ah good to hear!
