Labyrinth of the Minotorus (Fog of War)

(Published on 7. June 2023, 02:37 by bolgat)

Labyrinth of the Minotorus

You find yourself in a maze with seemingly no end, covered in a dense fog. Can you slay the dreaded beast at its center?

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • The grid is coverd in fog. Placing a correct digit will reveal the fog in a 3x3 area surrounding the digit.
  • The grid is toroidal. Clues that exit off the edge of the grid will continue on the other side. For example, if a cage exits the grid to the right on R5C9, it will continue on R5C1.
  • Digits in a cage cannot repeat, and they sum to the total in the leftmost cell of the topmost row of the cage. For toroidal cages, column 9 is considered left of column 1, and row 9 is considered above row 1.
  • Consecutive digits on a green line must differ by at least 5. The grey square in R9C9 indicates that its digit is even.
  • The 1-cell wide grid boundary and any other colors found in the grid are decorative and may be ignored.

This is one of the best sudokus I have ever seen. Right at the beginning I was able to make some pencil marks, but then I felt certain I had broken the puzzle. When it clicked, I laughed out loud as that first digit cleared the fog. The second digit was just as brilliant, and every subsequent deduction was creative, elegant and immensely satisfying. This was remarkable from start to finish, and I loved that the first pair I pencil marked was the last pair I resolved. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Thank you for this puzzle, what a gift!

P.S. The rating for this one should be 100%. And I’ve just spotted the ‘image’ in box 5. Bravo!
