The longest arrow

(Published on 3. June 2023, 11:18 by rollthedicegottfried)

After several tries, I was finally able to create this variant using the longest arrow possible

Rules:

1. Normal Sudoku rules apply

2. The digits along an arrow sum to the 3 digit total in the arrow's circle

3. Digits with a black dot have a 1:2 ratio

4. Digits with a white dot are consecutive

5. Digits may not be a knights move or a kings move apart

6. Digits with a black dot have a 1:2 ratio

7. Digits with a white dot are consecutive

8. Digits with an X between them sum to 10

9. All X's and V's are given

Great idea and very enjoyable puzzle. Do you think it's possible to have the same setting (1 long arrow and no given digits) with one square not covered by the arrow+sum, so that the break-in would be a bit harder? The long arrow could be less regularly shaped and could support additional constraints like even-odd alternation.

@Jreg - thanks for the feedback. I specifically wanted to create a puzzle with no given digits, a long arrow taking up the entire grid, and then enough rules to make for a fun solve while keeping the puzzle looking good. Adding any other arrows or lines in the grid made everything look very confusing since it would criss cross the main arrow. Therefore I kept myself to XY and Cropki rules. I definitely will take your feedback to heart in my next attempt. I would like to reduce the rules and also increase the difficulty a bit! I appreciate the feedback!

That's a fun one to start the day, thank you. I will say, though, could you maybe recreate this puzzle with less variant rules involved? D: At the beginning, it's a bit confusing to go through everything that's allowed or forbidden.

Thanks so much for the feedback! Danke! I’m humbled that so many people enjoyed it although I think I need to up the difficulty a bit for this group!

I’ve been recovering from knee surgery and had some time on my hands and this idea came to me in a pain-killer induced fever dream and it’s been a joy for me to see the positive feedback!

Make solution code something like with 9 digits at least (e.g. Digits on column 9). Since the way you have it you can easily try the numbers 6 to 30 until it works and it can be rated without solving it.
