Meidjuluk II (N=25)

(Published on 1. June 2023, 00:00 by glum_hippo)

My 100th puzzle in the LMD portal.

Divide the grid into N regions, one of each size 1 to N. Blackened cells are disregarded.

A region may not contain repeated numbers, and it may only contain factors of its size (e.g. a region of size 6 may contain any combination of 1,2,3, and 6, including none of them).

Example (N=9)Solution

Now for the puzzle (N=25):

Penpa version of the example puzzle. The same in pzprxs.

Penpa version of the main puzzle (answer check using the green 'Edge' tool; but don't outline the outer edge of the grid or the blackened cells). Version in pzpxrs

Solution code: First for the row marked by a black arrow, then for the marked column, provide the number of cells between region borders, from left to right or top to bottom, respectively. Ignore blackened cells. For the 5th row and 5th column of the example, the solution code would read 2312112.

I just FINALLY managed to finish this! (After breaking it 'only' two more times...)
Amazing puzzle!

I never doubted you! Well done, Lizzy01

After breaking the puzzle for the 4th time I quit trying. I have been planning to come back to it, but I keep being distracted and doing other things instead.....

Like setting my own Meidjuluk based puzzle:

And solving this one, which I think you'd like to solve too:

This was so much fun! Definitely one of my favorite puzzles! Tricky to keep mental notes of everything, but no individual piece of logic is too hard, and the large grid means it will take awhile. Thank you so much for your creativity in developing this!

Thanks for taking such an interest, glad you enjoyed.

Extremely brutal! Very hard throughout, and I was nearly going mad, multiple times incorrectly thinking that I had broken the puzzle. Pulling through and finishing the puzzle after a nearly three hour long battle feels immensely satisfying. :D

I fully agree that some of the logic is well-hidden. Thank you for persevering, makes me happy to see that you prevailed!

Thank you for your comments, tesseralis, wooferfzg, and KNT. It means a lot to me, and I'd love to see more attempts to incorporate this rule set into your own puzzles <3

I think this is one of my favorite puzzles. Epic and fulfilling and really makes you think about connectivity in a holistic way, and everything is put together that you just *know* when something is correct.

Amazing!! One of my favorite puzzles ever, and truly a work of art. Connectivity logic is so fun, and this puzzle has some of the best examples of it.

that was awesome! thanks.

Thanks to JayForty, konklone and Silverstep for your comments! konk, there are several interesting Meidjuluk hybrids on here now, or being created. There isn't a tag for them yet, but look at puzzles with the 'Zerlegungsrätsel' or 'Dissection puzzle' tag.

I have a fever, and the only prescription is more meidjuluk. This was extremely fun, forcing the solver to really think creatively about how the grid could (and must) work.

Thank you and I hope more people take up the mantle and expand this genre!

Pure ecstasy.

A work of art! This puzzle genre is fascinating, it's like a weird mix of Fillomino and Numberlink, I'm really enjoying it so far.

——Thank you, that is high praise indeed! I hope others will take up this genre.

I love this genre so far! An astonishing puzzle, and the logic is so crisp yet so rewarding!

It's definitely a step up from the previous one, similar to doing a few levels in Super Mario World and then taking the Star road shortcut and face Bowser, really good fun though! Keep them coming, MajorLuke will be on the lookout.
