Meidjuluk I (N=17)

(Published on 27. May 2023, 03:00 by glum_hippo)

Divide the grid into N regions, one of each size 1 to N. Blackened cells are disregarded.

A region may not contain repeated numbers, and it may only contain factors of its size (e.g. a region of size 6 may contain any combination of 1,2,3, and 6, including none of them).

Example (N=9)Solution

Now for the puzzle (N=17):

Penpa version of the example puzzle. The same in pzprxs.

Penpa version of the main puzzle (answer check using the green 'Edge' tool; but don't outline the outer edge of the grid or the blackened cells). Version in pzprxs.

Solution code: For each column, give the length of the longest continuous stretch of cells belonging to the same region. For the example puzzle, the code would be 3211238. For values larger than 9, give only the units digit, i.e., 0, 1, or 2.

Wonderful introduction to a cool new puzzle type!

Found this after CTC recently showcased the "meidjuluk" puzzle type for the first time. Puzzles with region-building are my favorite, so this puzzle type seems like it was made just for me. Looking forward to more of these and variants that include it. :)

Having done the harder #2 first, this felt like a very pleasant walk in the park ! The symmetry of the clues is a nice touch. Thanks :)

Enjoyed this - rarely do non-sudoku puzzles, maybe I shall start doing more.

I strongly endorse this initiative!

Da rechne ich mir mühsam aus, daß N=17 ist, und hinterher entdecke ich das im Kleingedruckten.

In der deutschen Anleitung ist ein Fehler, statt »mehr als zweimal« muß es »mehr als einmal« heißen.

Fun and approachable, hope there will be a sequel!

Thank you, I haven’t made very many of these but will try to extract some new logic if I can. It does have the possibility of some potentially fascinating mashups.
