Where Orbits Collide (Remix)

(Published on 20. May 2023, 09:00 by Nordy)

I have been reflecting on the puzzles from my first year of setting, and I noticed a common theme: good ideas, not-so-good execution. To do some of those ideas justice, I am revisiting them with extra experience. This remix should be much smoother than the original. Difficulty estimated at 3.4 stars.

Small note: it may be helpful to double check your sums—the shared arrow tip cells can lead to some minor bamboozling if approached too quickly.

Rules:

Normal Sudoku: Place the digits 1 to 9 in every row, column, and 3x3 box.

Arrows with Hidden Tips

  • Digits along arrows sum to the digit in the corresponding circle. However, the tips of the arrows are hidden and must be determined while solving.
  • Each circle has two arrows, which extend in opposing directions along gray lines and end in the same cell. In other words, there is a cell along the gray lines that contains the tips of both arrows.

Example: In the example below, the circled 8 is the sum of the digits along its two corresponding arrows, 8=5+1+2 and 8=6+2, where the 2 is at the tip of each arrow and is therefore counted in both sums.
