Put the digits 1-8 once each in every row, column and region.
Even/Odd: A digit in a cell with a circle must be odd. A digit in a cell with a square must be even.
There are invisible thermometers in this grid.
Every empty cell (the 6x6 in the center) gets visited by one of those thermometers.
Digits on a thermometer increase from the bulb on one end to the tip on the other end.
The thermometers are orthogonally connected and don't fork or overlap.
A thermometer may have length 1 if it's bulb and tip are the same cell.
The difference between bulb and tip must be unique for each thermometer.
Solution code: Row 6 in the sudoku.

Brilliant puzzle. It took a while to get the logic in order, but stunningly and cunningly crafted.

This is the most difficult puzzle I've done on this website (first 5-star for me), and I'm glad I tried it, even though it took me a very long time. The grid and rules are so simple-looking, yet it produces some of the most complex logic I've ever come up with myself. Thank you for this puzzle!

Rule clarification: Every pair of adjacent cells along a thermo must be orthogonally connected. In other words, no thermo can make a diagonal move.

Correct. Thanks!
