Product Placement

(Published on 4. May 2023, 19:14 by marty_sears)

Rules:
  • Each row and column contain the digits 1-9 once each.
  • In the completed grid, each row will have a horizontal orange line which contains the product of the first and last digits in the row. If the product is two cells long, it should be read from left to right as a two digit number. Eg: The orange line in the bottom row gives the answer to R9C1 x R9C9.
  • Similarly, each column will have a vertical blue line which gives the product of the top and bottom digits of that column. Vertical two digit products read downwards.
  • The positions of some product lines have been given. All the others must be found.
  • No cell is simultaneously orange and blue... ie; no cell is part of a horizontal product AND a vertical product.
  • White dots join two consecutive digits. Not all possible white dots are given.

Nice start with interesting logic to handle.

One of the most fun break-ins I've seen in a while, with little delightful epiphanies all the way through. Deserving of a much higher rating, to my mind.

Enjoyed this.... got stuck for FAR to long thanks to a pesky Kropki that decided to be invisible .... but once that was cleared up was a lovely smooth solve! Thank you

Very nice idea, and very clever how it all plays out :)

nice ruleset. thanks. Not so hard. Would have been if products could overlap.

- Reply: Thanks, glad you liked it. Yes I think that non-overlapping rule was key to it being solvable and enjoyable

i love this ruleset!! it never felt too overwhelming but it was still a lovely challenge and an amazing puzzle

- Reply: Ah thanks, this makes me happy. I had this ruleset idea quite a while ago, but it was actually quite challenging to find a way of fitting products into a grid in an interesting way without any overlaps. Then was also fun working out which extra constraint I could add to make the puzzle finishable... the white kropki dots did the job well in the end
