Warning: there is a step (according to testers) that might feel unfair, see the hidden comment for an explanation of that part. For an slightly easier but a bit more enjoyable solve, add an inequality sign in r9c34 facing r9c4.
Rules:
-Normal sudoku rules apply.
-Clues outside the grid give the sum of the first X digits in the direction of the clue, where X is the digit nearest to the clue. A ? means a single digit sum and a ?? means a double digit sum. The indicated diagonals can be a single digit sum or a double digit sum. Note that ? and ?? aren't necessarily the same for all clues.
-In addition, if X is >1, there is also an invisible whisper line of length X that starts from the cell nearest to the clue and travels in the direction of the clue until it reaches its length (i.e. must break). Adjacent digits along a whisper line must differ by at least 5. For example, a 20 clue might be 4916 and then a 2 to break it. If X = 1, no two adjacent cells in that row/column/diagonal may differ by 5 or higher.
-An inequality sign points towards the smaller digit of the two cells it connects.

Brutally hard for me. I must have missed some of the intended logic near the end of the puzzle, but stuck with it off and on for a couple weeks and ended up getting there. Thanks for the puzzle!

Wonderful puzzle. Some bottlenecks, sure. Keeping track of required/forbidden high jumps by using features like highlighting/lines helps. Still pleasantly hard. Thanks!
