Doppelganger: Crypto Japanese Cave

(Published on 1. April 2023, 04:05 by KNT)

Place the numbers from 1 to 9 into some cells such that no number repeats in a row or column.

Clues outside the grid indicate the sums of connected groups of numbers in the respective row or column, in order, where empty cells serve as delimeters between groups.

The letters from GLIPERAX replace numbers from 0 to 9, and no two letters may replace the same number. A question mark can be any number from 0 to 9, and for all clues, none may have a leading zero. A pound sign indicates any positive integer.

The puzzle is to be solved two times. The first time, all the numbers are orthogonally connected, and all orthogonally connected groups of empty cells touch the perimeter of the grid. The second time, all the empty cells are orthogonally connected, and all orthogonally connected groups of numbers touch the perimeter of the grid.

Solution code: Column 4 of both puzzles, starting with the solution where digits form the cave. X for empty cell.

Wizardry !

And a very nice way to improve my very clunky japanese sums solving ability :) Thanks !!

Absurd and miraculous construction, and the solve path from each of them is fairly approachable too. How could you even manage to get this...? I just have to imagine your reactions after figuring out this final grid x)

Very impressive to have two smoothly solving puzzles from one grid. And while I know it is not your style, I for one would welcome some similarly approachable KNT puzzles!

Very nice flex, particularly in making two such joyful experiences. :)

Insane construction. Despite sharing the same clues, the two puzzles feel quite different from each other and are already great standalone puzzles.

What an honor, to have contributed the idea for a KNT puzzle. It's a very impressive construction! I'm glad it exists, and I'm glad that I didn't have to set it :)

Clarified digits in the puzzle are from 1 to 9.

It's unreal that there are two grids that have unique solutions *and* are both amazing puzzles in isolation. An excellent (and approachable!) addition to the series. Thank you!
