The 5 Colours of the Rainbow

(Published on 1. April 2023, 10:23 by Trik126)

Normal sudoku rules apply. Cells separated by a V sum to 5. Cells separated by an X sum to 10. Not all Vs and Xs are necessarily given. Cells seperated by a white dot are consecutive. Digits along the line are a palindrome, eg the same forwards and backwards. The number 5 is in a different cell in each box. Here is a link to f-puzzles Here is a link to CTC

Very enjoyable. I am surprised it's not got a higher rating. I think 90-92% is well deserved.

Ok here’s an embarrassing admission as I move up from one-star to two-star puzzles. Keeping this for posterity in case I need a lesson in humility in a few years.

Attempted this about four or five times, logic flowed beautifully, filled up the grid with colour, loved how the disjointed fives worked themselves out, but, no, wait, why have I got five highs in that row? I love colouring puzzles and I’m pretty quick at one-star now, so I’m determined. Repeat, repeat again. I just keep running into difficulty around the central box. Every time, I get into trouble along the Renban.

Finally I reread the rules. Not a Renban. It’s a palindrome. So those two *are* the same digit.

Whole thing collapsed pretty quickly after that.

Great puzzle, despite my ineptitude. Thanks.

For emwmasu:
Almost ! Almost !
You can switch those two cells, but then you have to switch all of 1469 & 5 in col 7/8.
And, by the time you got to the end of the puzzle, I bet you forgot about the disjoint set rule on 5.

Hmmm, I think this puzzle might not have a unique solution. Swapping r9c7 and r9c8 gives me two solutions that both are OK by the ctc checker and by my own checks. I could be wrong…

Edit: Thanks VitP - you are right! I did forget about the 5-rule and with that it becomes resolved!

Hello guys, I think all the links should be fixed, I wish I'd been witty enough to do it as an April fools. I didn't even realise it was today! Hope you enjoy.

I can vouch the puzzle solution is correct; if you'd like to attempt the puzzle, choose the f-puzzles link and clear the solution (for now).

For me, the link seems to go to the correct puzzle - but all the numbers are already filled in!
